Wi-Fi over Coaxial (WoC)
Long Linear Coverage Wi-Fi Solution for Industrial Autonomy
Vernetzen's Wi-Fi over Coaxial (WoC) Wireless Access System offers industrial-grade environmental qualifications while ensuring reliable and continuous connectivity for static and mobile industrial applications such as, autonomous and semi-autonomous vehicles, tracking systems, CCTV, Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), safety systems and train-to-trackside connectivity.

These unique capabilities can enable autonomous operation of critical mobile assets in industries such as manufacturing, mining, and transportation and deliver a high-reliability solution for applications that cannot tolerate even the shortest losses in wireless connectivity, including a roaming environment.

How does the WoC work?
-
Traditional Wi-Fi antennas (i.e. Access Points) radiate a circular signal typically with a 90 metre (effective) coverage radius. As a result, an installation of multiple Access Points (APs) with overlapping coverage is required to cover areas that are typically irregular in shape (i.e. a long tunnel with curves, not an ideal 90 metre circular shape).

-
Wi-Fi APs are expensive an each require electrical power and wired connection to the network. Because of the expense, APs are typically cannibalised and redeployed to new areas of the mine, which can be time consuming and a bottleneck to production.

-
Unlike traditional APs, WoCs are:
-
Better suited to irregular shaped areas,
-
Required less units when compared to traditional Wi-Fi access points,
-
Require less electrical power and wired connections to the network,
-
Field-upgradable to accommodate industry Wi-Fi standards for supportability,
-
They are far easier and quicker to deploy using familiar skills common to underground comms techs.
-
WoC deployments offer compelling TCO compared to traditional APs and can be managed using the same network management tools and techniques as traditional APs.
